FAMILY WANTS ROYAL COMMISSION
Bernama - Friday, July 24
ALOR GAJAH, July 23 (Bernama) -- The family of political aide Teoh Beng Hock who was found dead following questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Shah Alam on July 16 wants the royal commission to also investigate the cause of Teoh's death.Teoh's younger sister Lee Lian, 29, speaking on behalf of the family, said the family had welcomed the setting up of the royal commission as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday but found out later that it would only scrutinise the standard operating procedure of the MACC in questioning witnesses and suspects.
The Cabinet, at its meeting yesterday, had also agreed to have an inquest to investigate the cause of Teoh's death. Teoh's body was found on a corridor of the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam which houses the MACC office on the 14th floor. He had been questioned as a witness in relation to alleged misuse of allocations by Selangor Pakatan Rakyat state executive councillors.
Lee Lian, who spoke to reporters at the family home in Taman Seri Kelemak here, said the family wanted to meet Najib as soon as possible to request for the royal commission to also investigate the cause of her brother's death. -- BERNAMA
